Ginger Root and Lemon Smoothie

This ginger root, lemon, and apple smoothie will help aid digestion, calm your stomach and get you hooked on its great flavor! It’s simple and has just a few ingredients. It’s easy to make, too. All you need is a blender and a few minutes.

The original recipe calls for a freshly juiced apple. A juicer isn’t required for juicing the apple (but it definitely helps). Just toss a peeled and cored apple into your blender and blend! Alternatively, you can also use apple juice from a jug or from frozen concentrate.

Also, I’ve found that you can swap some or all of the apple juice for some coconut juice. Coconut juice tones down the acidity in the lemon and gives it a smoother flavor.

Another variation: Add a few tablespoons of plain or vanilla yogurt to make this smoothie a little more creamy. With or without the yogurt, it works great for cleansing the gut and soothing your stomach.

What You'll Need:
 1 medium apple, juiced, or peeled and cored.*or 3/4 cup apple juice
 1 small lemon, juiced(47g)
 ½ cup ice cubes
 2 to 3 inches of fresh ginger root, peeled(24g)
 1 tbsp raw honey

What To Do

Juice one medium apple and add the juice to your blender. Alternatively, you can do one of the following: Peel the apple, cut it into slices and remove the core. Add the peeled and sliced apple. OR, simply add 3/4 cup of good quality apple juice.

Add the juice of one small lemon.

Cut a 2" - 3" piece of fresh ginger and carefully peel off the husk. Add it in.

Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to sweeten the lemon.

Finally, add the ice and blend everything for at least a full minute to break up the fibers of the ginger root.

You can pour the blended smoothie through a sieve or just pour it, well blended, directly into 2 glasses. Ginger root fibers can take a little getting used to if you're not already accustomed to having them in your smoothie.
